Interesting style

Sounds like kind of a mash-up of classical and techno, and works very well. Like something you might hear in a futuristic ninja scenario. Would probably work well as in an action game or flash movie.

Nothing immediately stands out to me that needs improvement. My suggestion is to start off with just the flute and strings, gradually bringing in the DnB.

Good work on this one, keep it up!

Yeh, I kinda like orchestral and techno/dnb/trance songs, and I usually like to mash them up a bit, add some orchestral instruments in techno/dnb/trance mostly (:

Thanks for the review.

Nice slow rock

Good work on this one, the guitar samples sound just right. It's the sort of slow rock you might hear for some sort of 'city streets at night' scene. Live performance is always a great deal harder to get to sound right after you've composed it digitally... it'll never sound quite the same.

Your guitar sounds like it's getting clipped, you can tell by that static sound when the sample gets louder. I think you're composing your pieces too loud. Also, this may just be me, but I'm having a hard time understanding the lyrics. Maybe write them out like you normally do?

Good job, keep it up!

Sawdust responds:

Thanks a whole lot man.

Also, I'm really glad you got that vibe listening to this. It means I'm doing my job!

Yay, Chrono Trigger!

Just recently discovered this game, and loved it. This was one of my favorite tracks. Very well done with the vocals, one of the rare pieces that has good vocals. I think it's interesting how you gave this kind of a Spanish feel with the guitar and maracas.

Seems a little empty, like there could be a long bass (strings, synth, etc) at places to keep up the atmosphere of magic and mystery. This is kind of a step away from that and one towards kind of a cheerful, dancing feel.

Overall, good job. Keep it up!

Although it wasn't my goal to do so, people seem to appreciate the Latin feel. Thanks a lot!

Majestic

Finally! An awesome classical piece to review. Right from the start, I loved the gradual crescendo. Really builds up well to something amazing. You have all the right harmony parts and instrument samples. Masterfully done.

My only problem with this one is that it isn't any longer. I could do with another minute of epic, i think. :)

Can we get everyone to improve this guy's score? This absolutely does not deserve a 1.33. 5'd and fav'd.

Thanks for the review! I usually try and keep songs concise so as not to lose the feeling and message to boredom. Thanks a lot for the score improvements! Makes me feel good. :)

Not my favorite

Really don't know what to think about this one. I like my audio to have some sort of rhythm, melody and structure. But this seems to be just a mass of chaotic noise. I understand it takes some considerable talent to produce said noise, and I think it would be better placed in making an actual song. Of course, this coming from a guy who's never picked up a guitar in his life, and has no idea what to do with one.

Melody, rhythm, harmony. Keep these in mind for your next submission. You could probably make a decent song with the elements you've presented here.

Thanks for the review, much appreciated. And I understand totally what your saying, but keep in mind, this was just an impromptu picking up of the guitar and letting it wail. It's basically 64 seconds of freestyle. Was trying to play something with a little bit of a Hendrix feel to it, that's all.

Cheers gamejunkie.

Wow.

This is seriously awesome. Worthy of a movie soundtrack. Might I ask how you came across those brass samples? I am in desperate need of a good low brass instrument, and what you're using is absolutely perfect.

5 and faved

DarkantheHero responds:

Thank you. The brass is from East West Quantum Leap Symphonic Orchestra. I think they might have some brass only software, I know I need to get Hollywood Strings for sure though.

Exciting, then calm down

Your synth gives it a really nice, frantic feel, leading into the slower, more mystical section. I like how the chords keep the mood strong near the beginning, then during the slower section become more like some old game prologue. Great work.

A good solid drumline, at least near the beginning and end, would very much enhance the awesomeness. Regardless, you managed to get my head bouncing with this.

Awesome work, keep it up!

ErlendHL responds:

Thanks! =D Yeah good idea with some drums, didn't think about that :P

Run, they're coming!

Sounds kind of like some sort of chase scene in a game. The drums do indeed create action. It sounds like this one was well thought out. If you're having trouble with a long pause because of a sample, just select 'cut remainder' when rendering to audio file.

I agree with SCTE3, this does sound shallow. This piece has so much potential to be even more awesome. What I'd suggest is to add some supporting harmony parts. Help to fill in the gaps where no particular melody instrument is playing.

Good job, keep working at it!

ErlendHL responds:

Thanks, this really helped!
Edit: uh how can you agree with SCTE3? He posted after you... or is it possible to edit reviews?

I use FL studio to make my music. Also toying with Game Maker, and would love to know if there is a way make my games into flash. I will respond to any and all reviews, given that they offer insight and constructive criticism.
